Career
In 2008, YG and DJ Mustard founded the Pu$haz Ink record label and group.
In 2009, after releasing many songs including She A Model and Aim Me that helped him gain a lot of popularity online, YG got signed to Def Jam record label.
Max Gousse, senior VP of A&R at Island/Def Jam who signed the rapper, said that YG’s abilities and stage presence, together with label president/CEO L.A Reid’s renewed focus on West Coast artists were the main factors in the signing.
Sadly, YG was arrested in mid-2009, just as his popularity was beginning to grow.
This was on the account that he was violating his parole after being previously charged with house burglary.
Released in 2010, Toot It and Boot It – a collaboration with Los Angeles-based musician, Ty Dolla Sign became YG’s breakthrough single.
